Regarding many questions about Smrekar and his work, there is a limit to what we know, and they will thus remain unanswered. This means that some of the mysteries of Smrekar’s works will remain forever impenetrable. The profoundest feeling inspired by his works is the silence that follows when we are moved by images that are simultaneously direct and sincere. They need no explanation. They fill our soul with thoughts or make us laugh even if we are unaware of their true message, since the circumstances are so much a part of our own environment and the individual types depicted are so familiar to us.
